An open letter to Laurell K. Hamilton as a reminder to my future self (warning: this is very long)

A Shiver of Light - Laurell K. Hamilton

After reading the latest offering you have a given us, I think it's time for me to say

I've stuck with you through all of Anita's garbage. I stayed with you while Anita battled the Mother of all Darkness ( a title that implies this is the final boss, no bad guys badder than this) and yet the story continued for 2 more novels afterward with plans for more. I was drawn deeper in when I discovered the Merry Gentry series and found characters that I loved even more than the ones in Anita's world. I wait 5 years from Divine Misdemeanors to get this new novel continuing Meredith's story. Having reread and reread both series in anticipation of new material, I couldn't wait to get my copy of A Shiver of Light. I was so excited that I was scared to even read it right away. I made myself calm down and waited about a week so that I could savor the story.

I finished the story last night and there are no words that can fully express my anger and utter disappointment. I think it’s time to face the facts. With deep sadness I say since you have chosen to give up in your writing, I am choosing to give up supporting it. I will no longer follow your updates on new material. I will no longer purchase any new material. If I happen to read something new, it will be because it was on the shelf in the public library and there was nothing else to read. My time is precious to me and I will no longer waste it on your paltry offerings.

Why we will no longer read LKH:

My love from another star or why do I do this to myself?

Curse you Korean Dramas, with your feelings and gorgeous actors. I hate you! I love you! Awww, why do you make me crave you so and then leave me to wallow in my emotions?

Why do you make me forsake sleep to binge watch every episode because I have to KNOW and can't let the day end without knowing.

For those that are still reading, yes I finished the show. It officially goes on my top 10 list of favorite k-dramas.

The story:

My Love From Another Star (별에서 온 그대)

Starring Kim Soo Hyun and Jeon Ji Hyun

Do Min Joon (Kim Soo Hyun) is an otherworldly beauty, literally. After crash landing on Earth 400 years ago, Min Joon has diligently observed humans for centuries, ultimately coming to cynical conclusions. On top of being a super babe, Min Joon's got enhanced vision, hearing and agility — all the more reason to believe he's superior to everyone on Earth. That is, until he pursues the beautiful actress Cheon Song Yi (Gianna Jun) for a romance out of this world.

I loved every single moment of this show. Which is rare for me because I usually get bored somewhere in the middle for a couple of episodes.

Couple of things I take away from this:

1)  enough said

2) The charm of the Steven Spielberg classic E.T. has never been more clear to me than here

3) The importance of prioritizing the use of one's super powers:

4) The degree to which my feelings have been affected by this drama and k-drama in general is clearly the work of

OMG Squee-fest! K-drama feels overload.

I'm am totally fangirling over this drama and Kim Soo Hyun!!!!

An Invitation to Seduction - Lorraine Heath

Standard HR featuring an arrogant duke chasing a stubborn American heiress, until you get to the end. I am one of those people that can usually guess the ending pretty early in movies and books. It's why I don't read alot of whodunnit type stories. However this ending:

Well played Ms. Heath. I can admit that I didn't see that one coming.

You get 3 stars for being sneaky. Well played.

Pardon my French...

Vingt et deux.

Is this right? Shouldn't it be vingt-deux?

21=vingt et un

22=vingt-deux

23=vingt-trois

Am I wrong?

One Good Earl Deserves a Lover - Sarah MacLean

So I started this today and I am starting to wonder if I can make it all the way through. The author gives us the inner thoughts of the male lead in the first chapter as he converses with the lead female. Though I'm sure the author didn't intend for my mind to color in the details the way I have, I cannot seem to undo what I've started. So now instead of the "sexy" thoughts displaying the prowess of the male lead, I hear:

and

Me:

Me as Katniss at the end of Catching Fire

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire rant 2

I'm struggling not to rage quit this. I really am. Everytime she goes on about Gale/Peeta everything starts turning red. I have no idea why I'm so upset about it. This isn't the first love triangle I've read nor will it be my last. Maybe it's because I watched the movies first and it has given the characters more vitality in my mind. All I can say is...

and it's messing with my reading experience. Or I may be pregnant.

Reading update...Hunger games trilogy

I finished the 1st book and am now working on the 2nd. I have to say I'm starting to get super annoyed with Katniss and I'm only at chapter 9.

I really need her to

I'm really liking movie Katniss better than book Katniss and it has nothing to do with my love for Jennifer Lawerence.

Last one I promise! But this is so stinking cute. I know exactly how this mom feels when my baby does it.

One of my absolute favorite songs of his...

Favorite part:

Another BIGBANG song...I Love it! Anyone else waiting with bated breath for the new album we should be getting this year (August last I heard)? No. So it's just me then.

BIGBANG- Love Song

It's been in my head all day.

A Rant: I'm kinda over getting told....

that I am giving in to the pressure of the "gangster bullies" if I just happen to agree with their reviews.

Or that the word gangster is evening coming out of the mouth of a 70 year old rich white woman. What does she know about gangsters or what it means to be in a gang?

My guess is next to nothing. I'm not even going to talk about the bully mess. IT irritates the hell out of me. This is pure madness and every word she speaks is ignorance and hypocrisy. Her claims to be a follower of Christ (not a Christian) are false based on her words and actions and show that she has no understanding of what a true follower of Christ is.

I think I'm going to create new shelves titled: The Khanh says no, Litchick won't let me, Nenia never lies,  etc. Cause clearly I don't know how to think for myself, wait maybe I should ask them if it's ok. Oh no! I don't know what to do!

All this just needs to

Remember:

I'm not sure that the title actually fits with the story.

Red-Headed Stepchild - Jaye Wells

Sabina Kane isn't a stepchild so not sure where that comes in but as a kick-ass heroine she's no Opie. I think I can like Sabina and her snark however, I'm not sure how I feel about the whole apple being the kryptonite for vampires in this world. I'm finding it hard to believe that vampires are a creature to be feared if my two year old can fight them off with the contents of her sippy cup. It's not even spelled or blessed, just a cup of straight up Mott's will bring agony to vampires.

Adam the Mage seems to be interesting but I think I am getting over that star-crossed lover bit. At the same time, I'm glad that Sabina isn't always

but at the same time I kind of wish she thought just a smidge more with them.

Also I don't know how she has kept herself from stabbing her witch of a grandmother through the years. The first time I met her I wanted to reach into the book, grab Sabina's gun and empty the clip of apple wood bullets into her chest. If I was Sabina at the end of the book, I would been like:

But still, the forbidden fruit as kryptonite:

Maybe the honeymoon will makeup for it

How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire - Kerrelyn Sparks

It was ok. I've definitely read worse. The "villain" was on the lame side, not villain-y enough for me. The heroine was kind of slow on the uptake and her reactions to the stuff about her family were underwhelming. Also the interactions between the MC was just shy of awkward. Overall the plot felt thrown together at times and some parts didn't seem to have any relevance. The stuff with heroine's father was really forced, that I wish it was eliminated altogether.

A couple of the scenes were quite funny

the vampire sex party line and the scene when the Heroine found he "dead" in her bed

(show spoiler)

but it wasn't enough to save the book.
